I have a close friend who claims himself to be an apologist. For the uninformed, an apologist is somebody who speaks or writes in defense of someone or something. In my friends case, that something is the Roman Catholic. Prior to my meeting this friend of mine last year, my idea of an apologist was C. S. Lewis writing and speaking in defense of Christianity. I read a number of the non-fiction books that he wrote and even went to YouTube to hear samples of his talks in his radio program. For me to know more about apologetics or a branch of theology devoted to the defense of the divine origin and authority of Christianity, I picked up this book.

After buying this book, I texted my friend but he said that I got this one wrong. This book is written by Protestant authors so what they defend here are their Protestant beliefs. I said, well I bought it already and it should still be worth reading since both a Roman Catholic and a Protestant are believers of Christ. He did not argue but he did express any interest of borrowing the book (that I hoped he would, considering that he is a certified bibliophile). He is damn right. This book, God Ape Man: An Apologetics Exposing Religious Misconceptions talks about my prophets like Topeth and Molech which I know nothing about.

The Madalits (the two authors who share the same surname) just did not give enough space in the book to explain about these prophets or evangelists. I read, from cover to cover, the new standard revised edition of the Holy Bible last year and cant recall if I encountered these prophets. I would rather love, or so I expected, to read about the usual Moses, Luke, Peter, etc.

rather than Topeth and Molech whose names sound like characters in Sesame Street. In my opinion, the title of the book: God * Ape * Man is also misleading. When I picked the book up, I thought that it was about the Madalits defense of the theory of creation while debunking the theory of evolution. Wrong expectation: it is about their theory that god aped (copied) the image of man in support to the statement that man is created in the image and likeness of God. That, at least, is a big shocker for me. However, it felt like God has a laboratory and copied the genetic permutations of an ape to create Adam.Allow me to stop before you get the wrong impression that this is a sci-fi rather than an apologetics book.Let me warn you though: stay away from this book.
